About Me

For almost 30 years I have worked in the field of human rights. In this work I have done tons of issue-oriented writing, editing, and research, from full-length reports, to op-eds and blogs, to one-page issue briefs and talking point memos. In addition to this communications and content creation work, I have also provided support or leadership for grassroots coalition building, strategic campaign planning, development and implementation of communications strategies, and campaign evaluations.

Beginning in the mid-1990s I was as a Middle East Country Specialist for Amnesty International, a position which changed and expanded dramatically following the attacks of September 11, 2001. In 2007, I became a death penalty abolition campaigner for the same organization. From 2015 until the end of 2020, I was the State Campaigns Director for the Campaign for Youth Justice, where we endeavored to end (or at least restrict) the U.S. practice of prosecuting children as adults. At the same time I provided support to the Committee of Concerned Scientists, performing research and drafting letters on behalf of scientists and scholars around the world facing threats and abuses of their human rights. I then worked as an mobilization manager for Churches for Middle East Peace, and now as a Senior Program Officer for Scholars at Risk.
